Dope Portrait Shooting
Shooting portraits are an art form. The way the subject poses, the way the light hits their face and even the background plays a role in the shot. This shot that I did of my homie who is an entrepreneur was actually shot impromptu. We were in a space with a large glass wall that gave way to amazing lighting. He just so happened to be on the other side of the glass wall when I took the shot and it came out official. Now, I know how to create this effect in-studio, but taking portraits during a tech entrepreneur event was not my sole purpose. After some light editing in Adobe Lightroom, the picture above is the final product.
My advice for taking dope portraits is simple. You have to practice and find what techniques work best for you with trial and error. I prefer to take photos of natural lighting if I can help it because that's my preferred style, however, I will use artificial lighting if needed. Take the time to watch YouTube videos, read articles and talk with your local photographer in town for some tips. When you have taken the time to learn how to take portraits, then you must put what you learned to test.
So here are your action items:
Find a subject and locate a space indoor/outdoor or a studio and get to shooting!
